Welcome to the world of Alongu – the pursuit of tableware that reflects modern Japanese food culture to create a truly unique and inspired collection. Over the years, Japanese food culture has evolved and adapted, incorporating various styles to create a diverse and ever-changing cuisine. And Alongu captures this essence, bringing it to your dining table in the form of carefully crafted plates, bowls, and other vessels.
Designed by Jin Kuramoto, each piece is carefully considered. Vessels are set upon a thick base, with a slightly open form that extends to a tapered edge. A modern take on traditional designs, making it the perfect addition to any contemporary home.
Tenmoku Brown: The black glaze, containing a significant amount of iron, produces a delicate surface pattern through crystalline reactions. The rich appearance enhances the colour of ingredients, making it well suited to bright, vibrant dishes.
The porcelain tableware is manufactured in Hasami, Nagasaki prefecture, a town with a history dating back 400 years in the porcelain industry. Here, local craftspeople come together to create beautiful ceramics using large-scale climbing kilns. The spirit of sharing extends beyond just manufacturing as farmers also work together, using a common water source to cultivate rice in terraced fields. This sense of community and harmony with nature has been passed down through generations and is a core value of the Alongu brand.
Experience the true essence of Japanese food culture with Alongu – timeless, modern, and truly one of a kind.
